Lanarkshire university campus up for top award

University of the West of Scotland Lanarkshire hope their campus will be a benchmark for higher education organisations in the future, after being shortlisted for a major award.

UWS principal and vice-chancellor Professor Craig Mahoney made the comment after the Lanarkshire campus was nominated under the ‘Sustainable Buildings That Inspire’ category at next week’s Guardian University Awards.

The campus, which opened its doors last summer, is one of three finalists, but has been recognised as “one of the most sustainable and inspiring buildings in the UK”.

UWS Lanarkshire was a culmination of a £110 million investment.

The campus is completely carbon-neutral and is powered on 100 per cent renewable energy, with technologies used throughout to minimise energy wastage.

The Guardian University Awards takes place in London on Wednesday, April 10.
