Lanarkshire theatre group holds open auditions to find stars in the making

By Nicola Findlay

An East Kilbride-based stage school is holding open auditions this month for its next production.

It comes in the wake of two successful shows recently from Encore Stars Academy – the juniors’ performance of Matilda and The Little Shop of Horrors by older performers.

Now the group are looking for stars in the making for a production of The Little Mermaid, with open public auditions being held this Saturday, May 14, from 12pm at the Encore studios in East Kilbride’s Murray Square.

Further open auditions will be held on Monday, May 16, at 8.30pm for those aged 16 plus, again at the Encore studios.

Allen Hannah, who founded Encore in 2013, told Lanarkshire Live : “The recent shows were excellent and we got nothing but positive feedback and had people coming to the show more than once.

“It is an exciting time for us as our children will even be in the live audience and participate in the CBBC show the ‘Saturday Mash-Up’, so its really a great positive vibe around the charity just now.”

Allen added: “We run Encore Stars Academy as a registered charity and it’s based in East Kilbride.

“Now more than ever we are looking to build back post Covid and continue to offer young people and adults a place to come and learn and have fun and ultimately perform.”
