A Wishaw HND television student has won a gold medal at the UK’s biggest skills competition.
Nathaniel Gray studies at City of Glasgow College and was one of five students who secured team gold for digital media production at this year’s WorldSkills National Finals.
The WorldSkills UK skills competitions are designed by industry experts and assess an individual’s knowledge, practical skills and employability attributes against set criteria in a competitive timed environment.
Nathaniel, who attended St Aidan’s High School, was thrilled to achieve gold.
The 19-year-old told Lanarkshire Live : "The competition was a tremendous experience to be a part of and securing a gold medal for the college was the only thing we had on our minds when competing in Birmingham throughout the four days.
“The main challenge was trying not to think that we weren't good enough as we were the only college from Scotland competing against four different top institutes across the UK.
"I am very proud of my team and would like to thank my wonderful lecturer and mentor, Laura Dickson, for providing industry-level guidance throughout the competition, helping us get the gold.”
Nathaniel's lecturer Laura Dickson, who helped mentor Nathaniel and his teammates, said: “We're really proud of them all.
"Working with the students on this project has been incredibly rewarding. They worked so hard to prepare themselves for the competition. Working on meta-skills and new genres of production has hopefully provided them with lifelong skills.”
A virtual medal ceremony was broadcast live on Channel 4, hosted by Stephanie McGovern from her Packed Lunch studio, which announced all the medal winners.
