Lanarkshire supermarket worker praised for going extra mile for elderly customer

A long-serving supermarket worker has been commended for going the extra mile for an elderly customer who was struggling to get home with his groceries.

Kind-hearted Helen Carlin, who has worked at the Asda store in Newmains for almost 10 years, had just finished her shift when she learned that a man, who was partially sighted, needed some help.

Helen was quick to offer her assistance by driving the man across Newmains and helping take his groceries inside.

The shopper’s wife returned to the store the next day to express her gratitude for the Helen’s kindness.

Helen said: “The gentleman was so lovely! As I was leaving the store my colleague, who was assisting the gentleman with his shopping, advised me that he was having problems getting home.

“I was delighted to help. My attitude has always been that if you can help somebody out, why would you not? I’d always do it.”

Asda Newmains store manager, Andy Claase, added: “I was not a bit surprised to hear that Helen had offered to take the gentleman and his shopping home.

“This is characteristic of Helen and her caring nature. She is always helping her colleagues and customers. We are all very proud of her.”
