Supermarket staff in Lanarkshire could avoid having to self-isolate under possible new government guidelines
Lanarkshire Live's sister title the Daily Record reported that key workers across a number of industries are to be made exempt from the current rules.
Those currently state that close contacts of people who test positive for COVID have to self-isolate for ten days.
Due to rising infection levels the number of absences are rocketing, which is badly affecting the economy.
It now looks likely that employees vital to the functioning of supermarkets - such as drivers and warehouse staff - NHS, social care staff and pilots will be made exempt from that rule.
The changes are expected to be announced later today (Friday).
Retailers have warned this week that their stock levels were being hit due to the amount of staff who were absent.
Health boards, including NHS Lanarkshire have also repeatedly warned that they are under enormous pressure, in part due to staff shortages.
