A Lanarkshire music student has put her theory into practice by releasing her first single.
Catriona Johnston, 21, is studying music at New College Lanarkshire (NCL) and used what she has learned to work on her own song-writing.
Titled 'Ophelia,' her first ever single looks at themes of mental health and her own personal battles.
The inspiration for the song came to Catriona while she was reading Hamlet and turned the character of Ophelia into a metaphor about mental health.
She told Lanarkshire Live: "I started out with the melody on my keyboard and the song just grew from there.
"I used my computer and some software to compose the song further, then I started to get an idea of the lyrics and it all came together.
"One of my friends recorded the guitar on the song for me and mixed the song together, then that was it done.
"It was all done in the house and the end result is something I am really pleased with."
Her piece handily doubled up as some college coursework for which Catriona had to choose an artist that inspired her when producing the track.
Choosing Radiohead, Ophelia is a slow ballad-style track with big inspirations from the British band.
The course at NCL has a rich history of producing huge talents, such as Lewis Capaldi and Paige Turley.
Catriona said: "Obviously there have been lots of people who studied this course.
"It would be such a dream to have similar success to them.
"I have made the first step now and put out some of my own music, which is the hardest part.
"We will just see what happens now with the song and the future."
