The European Championships may have ended in disappointment for Scotland – but a number of youth clubs across Lanarkshire are set to benefit from the tournament.
Several teams have been sent UEFA EURO 2020 Club Legacy Packs as part of an initiative by the Scottish FA and Glasgow Life which is aimed at supporting the grassroots game.
The clubs will benefit from specialist equipment including balls, bibs and goals, hopefully providing a helping hand to the next generation of Scottish talent.
Among the Lanarkshire sides benefitting are Rutherglen Glencairn Youth Academy, Cambuslang FA 2007, Cambuslang Rangers 2005, EKRR Youth, Scotland Boy's Club, Strathaven Dynamo FC, Villa Park Football Club, Newmains United and Shotts YMCA 2013's.
A total of 50 clubs across Scotland will be helped by the scheme.
.Commenting on the UEFA EURO 2020 Legacy Packs, legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Lockdown has been a difficult time for all of us but for kids especially.
"It’s fantastic to see my old boys club, Harmony Row, benefit along with other youth clubs and it’s an important part of qualifying from the Scottish FA and the city: to make sure that it has a direct benefit to young people.
"Harmony Row played a pivotal role in my development from a very young age, not only as a footballer, but as a person."
There were five players from Lanarkshire in the Scotland squad at the Euros.
The Scottish campaign ended at Hampden on Tuesday night after a disappointing 3-1 loss to Croatia, which meant the Scots could not qualify for the last 16 of the tournament.
