Lanarkshire set to come alive to "The Sound of Music" in society's latest production

A theatre group are set to bring East Kilbride alive to "The Sound of Music".

The production in March comes hot on the heels of Eros Musical Society's successful "The Addams Family" show which was a hit with audiences in 2022.

Their latest production will run from March 7 to 11 at East Kilbride Village Theatre.

Lesley Wilson, president of Glasgow South-based Eros, said: “We are delighted to be working on this very special musical, especially as 2022 was also the 80th anniversary year of the first collaboration of its creators, Rodgers and Hammerstein.

"That partnership is one of the most revered in musical theatre. The Sound of Music, their final show, was destined to become the world’s most beloved musical.

“Most people will be familiar with the film version but rest assured that the stage show encapsulates the same powerful and moving story of victory over oppression told through memorable music.

"When we first advertised for cast, the response from both adults and children was overwhelming, with over 70 children applying for just 12 roles - a daunting task for our auditioning committee.

"Double casting the Von Trapp children has made for a very busy and fun-filled rehearsal schedule and with the superb quality of performers onstage, I’m certain our audiences are in for a wonderful treat."

The production features a treasure trove of cherished songs, including Climb Ev’ry Mountain, My Favourite Things, Do Re Mi, Sixteen Going on Seventeen and the title number, The Sound of Music.

The film earned five Tony Awards and five Oscars.

The inspirational story, based on the memoirs of the real-life Maria, follows an exuberant postulate who serves as governess to the seven children of imperious Captain von Trapp - and follows her story as she brings music and joy back to their household.

The show runs from Tuesday to Saturday, March 7-11 at 7.30pm with a 2.30pm Saturday matinee.

Ticket prices are from £16, group booking rates available Tuesday to Thursday.

Book tickets in person at the venue, by calling the box office on 01355 261000, or online through the box office website.
