Lanarkshire sea shanty singer Nathan Evans to cameo on hit TV show 'Scot Squad'

Lanarkshire sea shanty singing sensation Nathan Evans had the police at the door of his Airdrie home after neighbours reported him for playing his music too loud.

But don’t worry, the Wellerman hit-maker star didn't have to spend a night in the cells - he just landed a cameo in hit comedy show Scot Squad.

The hilarious scenes, airing at 10pm tomorrow night on BBC Scotland, see the 27-year-old TikTok sensation being confronted by starstruck countryside cops PC Charlie McIntosh and PC Jane Mackay .

But instead of sending their music hero to the clink, the officers help him record his next single - The Polis Shanty - with Charlie on the accordion and Jane using a shinty stick to create the bass.

Thrilled Nathan told Lanarkshire Live : “I lived a year of dreams in 2021 but being asked to do a cameo in what has become a cult TV show was the icing on the cake.

“I thought, ‘oh boy, I really have made it,’ when I got the call. I am a massive Scot Squad fan and so are all my friends, so I’m buzzing to be in it.

"There are always clips of the show on social media and now I am going to be a part of that. It’s insane.

“My wife absolutely loves PC Charlie , so when I heard my scenes were with him and PC Jane she was even more excited than me. They were both brilliant.

“Trying to keep a straight face was quite hard, especially when they started banging a Shinty stick on the floor.”

The former postman added: “In the sketch, I’m in a cottage in the Highlands attempting to lay down my next track and the cops come to my door because I’m making too much of a racket.

“Instead of arresting me, they decide to help with my new shanty, which is all about cops in the sticks who keep the peace and arrest the hicks.

“Our Polis Shanty is actually quite catchy. Who knows, I could maybe add some more verses to it and turn it into a proper song with Charlie on accordion and Jane on percussion.”

Nathan, who is the latest in a long line of Scot Squad cameo stars including Lorraine Kelly and Jean Johansson, said he’s never had the police at his door.

He added: “I’m a good boy and I need to behave now more than ever as people know who I am.”

“I wouldn’t mind another arresting cameo in Scot Squad . It was the funniest thing I’ve done.”
