Lanarkshire school pupils raise funds for hospice among trips and events in the community

Thrilled youngsters at a Coatbridge school were on their travels more than a productive pilot as they enjoyed several terrific trips and exciting events.

Buchanan High’s outings began with a charitable exercise in aid of St Andrew’s Hospice.

Pupils took part in a sponsored walk around Coatbridge’s Drumpellier Loch which raised hundreds of pounds for the Airdrie facility.

A school spokesperson told Lanarkshire Live : “All of the staff and pupils involved in the sponsored walk really enjoyed the lovely surroundings and chat with their friends while generating funds for a precious resource in our community.

“We would like to thank everyone who sponsored our pupils and made a contribution to the hospice.”

Inspired by last year’s COP26 climate change event in Glasgow, the school arranged science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) visits to Summerlee museum in Coatbridge with and a sustainable fashion event at Lanarkshire’s ACS Clothing.

Following the “successful visit” to the latter venue, the school’s senior phase rural skills group arranged to join pupils from Firpark Secondary School in Motherwell and staff from North Lanarkshire Council’s supported employment team to “plan, develop and maintain a garden within ACS’ premises”.

The school spokesperson added: “The trips our pupils have been on were very exciting – and educational.

“You could see how much they meant to everyone and it’s very important that the school establishes links with many community facilities, resources and businesses.

“We’re hopeful of many more interesting trips and link-ups throughout 2022.”
