A primary school has landed a cash boost for their school garden from housebuilding company Taylor Wimpey.
Newton Farm Primary School in Cambuslang was awarded £250 to mark National Garden Wildlife Week earlier this month, which aimed to shine a light on the amazing native creatures that live in gardens and how spaces can be created for nature to thrive.
Taylor Wimpey’s support of the school garden also came as work continued at its nearby development at Newton Farm.
Head teacher Catherine Meecham said: “We are extremely grateful for this donation from Taylor Wimpey because we know the school garden can make such a positive contribution to our children’s health and wellbeing.
“The garden is also a haven for local bugs and native wildlife so we need to do all that we can to help them thrive so our children will use Taylor Wimpey’s donation to create plenty of natural spaces for native wildlife to feel at home in our school garden.
"I am sure we will have lots of fun creating bug hotels and planting pollinator friendly plants to attract bees and other insects, and I hope we will inspire the children to be creative in their own gardens at home.”
Audrey Ross, sales and marketing director at Taylor Wimpley, added: “To celebrate National Garden Wildlife Week, we are proud to have made this donation to Newton Farm Primary School to support and encourage the children to learn about how they might make their own garden at home bug-friendly.
"As part of our sustainability strategy we are creating space for nature to thrive on our developments, and we hope that our donation to Newton Farm Primary will help them to add features to their school garden for local wildlife to flourish.
“We do more than just build high-quality homes. Being able to work with the local communities that surround our developments means a great deal to us, and it’s great to know that we are helping to make a difference.”
The housebuilder launched a new environmental strategy in February, supporting green causes.
