Lanarkshire school community devastated after death of second year pupil

Tributes have been paid to a talented young Lanarkshire footballer after he passed away this week.

Pupils, parents and staff at Uddingston Grammar School were told on Tuesday that Kyle McKean had died following an illness.

Uddingston Grammar head teacher, John McKay, broke the news and described second year pupil Kyle as a "wonderful young man".

Kids at the school told their parents it had been "really quiet" in the building following the devastating announcement.

Mr McKay said: "On behalf of the whole school community here at Uddingston, I wish to convey my condolences to Kyle’s family at this very sad time.

"He was a wonderful young man, with a smile that would light up any room.

"A hugely talented footballer with a bright future ahead of him, his loss has been a tragedy for his family and our school, our family.

"We miss him dearly. He was and will always be one of us. The thoughts and prayers of our whole community are with his family.

"Sleep tight Kyle."

Others took to social media to pay their respects to the young pupil.

One mum of a fellow Uddingston Grammar pupil posted: "What a sad day. R.I.P wee man sending your family strength."

Another parent said: "That's heartbreaking. Far too young."

Whilst another added: "Omg it’s so heartbreaking news my thought to all family, friends and teachers."
