Lanarkshire school appeals for donations as they look to secure £5000 top-up from Cash for Kids

A Blantyre secondary school has made a last-gasp appeal for donations to their Cash For Kids fundraiser as they look to secure an extra £5000.

Calderside Academy has so far raised £1620.50 as part of the schools' challenge with Cash for Kids, and is currently in third place on a leaderboard of schools from across the west of Scotland.

They only have until 5pm tomorrow (Friday, March 18) to raise as much as possible to win the challenge - with an additional £5000, £2500 and £1500, being added to the top three schools' respective prize pots.

Calderside has a number options for how they might spend the fundraising money, including Chromebooks, outdoor seating and an end-of-term activity week for all year groups, with the funds being used to pay for transport and costs to ensure all pupils can participate.

They have used different fundraising methods including a collection at Asda in Blantyre where they raised £242.45, plus football cards.

Ruth Gebbie of the school's parent council, who helped organise the fundraiser, has made a last-minute appeal to donors to ensure they are one of the top three fundraising schools in line for the additional prize.

She said: “We have raised a lot of money so far. We have been in first place for most of this week, but we have dropped to third and we are trying to get back up there.

“Pupils and members of the parent council attended the collection at Asda Blantyre, and it was great to see parents coming out in support of the school.

“We want to smash the target to get that extra money given by Cash For Kids.”

To donate, visit the school's page on the Cash For Kids challenge website before 5pm on Friday, March 18..
