Lanarkshire Rotary club helps keep train station looking bright

A Lanarkshire railway station has been kept on the right track - thanks to a local rotary club.

Members of Cambuslang Rotary Club have been kept busy throughout the summer by looking after all the plants at Cambuslang station.

The club adopted the station in 2014 and since then members have been responsible for planting and maintaining the barrels and train planter on the platform.

Despite the challenges of COVID and strict health and safety protocols, the club's volunteers have managed to keep the tubs blooming right through the pandemic.

They also faced an additional challenge throughout the July heatwave, which required a lot of extra visits with watering cans to keep the plants from drying out - and thankfully the sunshine encouraged a mass of beautiful colourful flowers to keep the station looking bright.

The rotary have been working all summer (RGR)

Looking forward, the Rotary members are hoping to work with Cambuslang Community Council on projects to improve the environment around the station.

The community council recently power-washed the wall at the station entrance, giving it a fresher look, and they are looking to develop further ideas for the station in the future.

Anyone interested in finding out more about Rotary in Cambuslang can contact the club through their website here or via their Facebook pages.
