Lanarkshire right-back of the decade: Albion Rovers, Motherwell and Clyde favourites in the running

Our regional sports writers are bringing together a list of some of the players who have had the biggest impact in Lanarkshire over the past decade.

From Albion Rovers to Hamilton Accies, to Airdrieonians to East Kilbride, from Motherwell to Clyde - with your help we can pick the best side from the past decade.

Vote for your favourite below as our team profile their picks for the best Lanarkshire left-back of the decade.

Alan Reid (Albion Rovers/Caledonian Braves)

The defender made more than 400 appearances for the  Coatbridge  outfit and has experienced both the highs and lows during over a decade at Cliftonhill.

Now at Alliance Park at Caledonian Braves, Reid won promotion in 2011 and was part of the Scottish Cup quarter-final Rovers team of 2014.

He left the club following their relegation from League One in 2018.

Barry Cuddihy (Clyde)

Having made over 100 appearances for the Bully Wee, Cuddihy has been a key figure in Danny Lennon's revolution at Broadwood.

At just 22, the right-back picked up the players of the year gong as Clyde sealed promotion from League Two via the play-off places.

Scott Stewart (Airdrieonians)

Son of Sandy, Scott continued the family lineage at Airdrie with a impressive spell in the diamond.

Picking up Young Player of the Year for 2016–17  and the overall Player of the Year in 2017–18 Stewart was part of the team who narrowly lost on spot-kick to Allioa as Airdrie pushed for the Championship.

He also took on the captaincy during a tough spell for the club at the end of Tom Wotherspoon's time as owner.

Richard Tait (Motherwell)

Tait has been a regular for Motherwell since his switch from Grimsby back in 2016.

He played in the 2017 League Cup final defeat against Celtic, before once again playing in the Scottish Cup final against the Hoops in the 2-0 loss at Hampden.

Still a mainstay in the side who are now pushing for a top six finish this term.

Ziggy Gordon wheels away in delight (SNS Group)

Ziggy Gordon (Hamilton Accies)

A versatile defender who can play across the back-four, and did at Hamilton Accies, he started life as a right-back, which is probably his strongest position.

Ziggy started his professional career with Hamilton in February 2011 and made more than 130 appearances until leaving for Partick Thistle in 2016. In that time he was part of the promotion-winning team of 2013-14.

Gordon returned to Accies for season 2018-19, performing very well, before leaving for Central Coast Mariners in Australia.

Scott Stevenson (East Kilbride)

From playing Celtic in the Scottish Cup, surpassing Ajax’s world record for consecutive wins and winning the league in 2017, to play-off pain in Cowdenbeath, a final day collapse in the 2018 league campaign and the Cove Rangers play-off exit - it has been a proverbial rollercoaster for the full-back.

Having made over 100 appearances at the K-Park , local lad Scott has made himself a firm favourite with the Kilby fans.
