Lanarkshire residents urged to enjoy sun safely as heatwave set to continue

As the good weather is set to continue this week, Police Scotland are urging Lanarkshire residents to enjoy the sunshine safely.

Cops are reminding people to be respectful and mindful of others when gathering in public places.

The force posted on their Facebook page: “Drinking in public is banned in many council areas so check local byelaws if you’re travelling to a different part of the country.

“Take care when swimming in public places and never enter the water after consuming alcohol.

“We ask everyone to enjoy themselves responsibly and to report any concerns by calling Police Scotland on 101.”

With temperatures set to soar above 33 degrees across parts of the UK this week, the Met Office issued its first ever 'amber extreme heat warning'.

The warning - which is similar to those issued when heavy rain or snow is forecast - will remain in force until the end of Thursday.

The amber alert covers a large part of Wales, all of south-west England and parts of southern and central England but not Scotland - however, Lanarkshire is set to reach 28 degrees on Thursday.

The Met Office forecasts temperatures of up to 26 degrees today (Tuesday), Wednesday and Thursday, before beginning to cool on Friday and across the weekend.
