Lanarkshire records over 200 new Covid cases in a single day for the first time

More than 200 new coronavirus cases in Lanarkshire have been confirmed in a single day for the first time.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed a further 230 people had tested positive for Covid-19 in the region at Holyrood this afternoon.

For the third consecutive day, the daily record for new coronavirus cases has been broken in Lanarkshire.

In total, 5612 people have now tested positive across Lanarkshire including the 127 in South Lanarkshire and 103 in North Lanarkshire announced by the First Minister today.

From tomorrow (Friday, October 9) new restrictions will come into effect in Lanarkshire in a bid to slow the spread of the virus.

One new death was recorded in Lanarkshire today, taking the total to 368.

Already this month, 1237 new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Lanarkshire. For the whole of September there were just 1415 new cases.

Only Greater Glasgow and Clyde (405) saw a higher number of new confirmed cases than Lanarkshire.

South Lanarkshire was the local authority with the second highest number of confirmed cases behind only Glasgow City (268).

Across Scotland, the First Minister confirmed a further 1027 new cases and five deaths.
