Lanarkshire recorded its highest daily tally for new coronavirus cases in almost six months, as total case numbers more than doubled last week.
The Scottish Government today confirmed there had been another 365 cases recorded in the county – the most since 390 were announced on January 8.
As a result, there were 2051 positive tests in the region last week – up by 112 per cent on the previous week.
Last week saw the largest increase in new coronavirus cases in Lanarkshire on record.
It was also the eighth consecutive week in which Covid-19 cases have increased after falling to their lowest level for eight months at the end of April.
New weekly cases topped 1000 for the first time since February and more than 2000 cases were recorded in a single week for the first time since the new year peak in week beginning January 4.
Last week, the rate of new cases in Lanarkshire was lower than the national average.
Deaths from coronavirus have also increased in June and five people died this past month after testing positive – up from two in May.
In total, 46,756 people have tested positive for coronavirus in Lanarkshire and 1328 people have died from the virus.
Lanarkshire has been the worst affected region in Scotland by coronavirus with 7063.9 cases and 200.6 deaths for every 100,000 residents.
Across the region, 475,959 people – 89.9 per cent of the adult population – have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccination and 342,133 of them – 64.6 per cent of the adult population – have received both doses.
