Lanarkshire publican donates funds to two charities after 'fight night' event

A Blantyre publican has donated £700 to two Lanarkshire charities after taking part in a fundraising boxing event.

Mick Flynn, owner of the popular Hootlet’s bar and restaurant, participated in the charity boxing night at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow earlier this year.

That saw him raise funds for Terminal One youth group and The Haven, with the money being split equally between the two.

Through a Just Giving page people were able to donate directly, as well as a proportion of ticket sales being contributed to the fundraising donations.

The event was a huge success with expectations exceeded with a fantastic turnout of over 500 people on ‘fight night’ and over 12 boxing matches taking place.

June Torley, The Haven’s Business Support Manager for The Haven, met with owner, Mick Flynn, this week to accept their share of the funding.

Mick told Lanarkshire Live : “Thanks to my family, my friends, the wonderful Hoolets team, the people of Blantyre and beyond who supported, donated via Just Giving and everyone who attended the show.

"A special thanks also goes to Priestfield Boxing, SK Promotions, Kynoch Boxing Club for all of their support."

The Haven provides emotional and practical support. Individuals, carers, families and friends can receive advice, information and support to help them cope with the physical, mental and impact of illness and bereavement.

All support services available at The Haven are free, totally confidential and there is no need for a referral.

The funds will help The Haven continue to offer valuable and much needed support to the local community.

Paul Hayward, campaigns and communications officer for The Haven said: "We are so thankful to local businesses who continue to provide vital fundraising opportunities for The Haven to allow us to continue in providing much needed services within our local communities.

"Thank you to Mick and the rest of the team at the Hoolet’s, everyone who arranged and attended the event, to those who donated for their generosity and support."
