Lanarkshire projects awarded more than £1.7 million funding

Three projects in South Lanarkshire have been awarded funding totalling £1.77 million from the Scottish Government's Regeneration Capital Grant Fund.

The bulk of the funding was awarded to the project to regenerate Carluke High Mill. In total, £1,199,383 will be put towards the project which began in 2018.

A further £275,000 has been awarded to the Carnwath Community and Business Enterprise Hub. This was the last piece of the puzzle for the project which will see a new, sustainable charity shop established as well as the regeneration of a former petrol garage into the community hub. The total cost of the project is £970,000.

South Lanarkshire Council has also been awarded £300,000 for a new Larkhall Business Micro Hub which will see a flexible space established for learning support, training opportunities and business support from within the new Larkhall Leisure Centre.

Lanark and Hamilton East MP Angela Crawley has welcomed the funding which will be "transformational" for the towns and villages involved.

She said: "It is fantastic news for people up and down my constituency that so much money is being invested into these three projects.

"In 2018, I was privileged to dig the first spade to help get the Carluke High Mill project underway and it has come on leaps and bounds since despite the challenges of the pandemic.

"The funding for Carnwath and Larkhall will prove to be transformation for the areas by creating jobs and boosting the economy.

"I am eagerly looking forward to seeing these well-prepared projects coming to fruition."
