Lanarkshire primary pupils get active with sporting challenges

An East Kilbride school have been getting active with a number of events to help pupils stay fit and healthy.

Greenburn Primary, which teaches children with additional support needs, took part in a variety of different sporting opportunities.

The school kicked things off by attending the West of Scotland Cross Country Festival - running 1km around Chathelherault Country Park.

Principle teacher, Pamela Walker, told Lanarkshire Live : "One of our P6 pupils, David, came first out of the primary aged runners.

"We also had a great morning when we were supporting Sport Scotland in promoting sport and activity in girls for 'active girls day'.

"Our active school's co-ordinator organised different multi-sports stations for the girls to try out and great fun was had by all. We have even had some requests for an 'active boys day' so watch this space.

"Active schools are also helping us with our 'Friday Fitness' sports club that runs after school.

"Our first session was held recently and the children and adults had so much fun.

"It is great to see the children taking part in so many different experiences and having the opportunity to be fit and active with their friends in school and in the community."
