Lanarkshire Police continue crackdown on road criminals and unsafe vehicles

Police in Lanarkshire have continued their crackdown on traveling criminals and unsafe vehicles.

Officers from Motherwell and Wishaw teamed up with colleagues in Road Policing and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) to continue efforts in identifying unsafe vehicles using the public roads and gain information on traveling criminals.

Gillian Norrie, the Area Commander for Viewpark, Bellshill, Motherwell, Wishaw and Shotts, was delighted with the operation.

She told Lanarkshire Live : “This is the third operation we have run in the area over the past three months in partnership with the DVSA, which has proven to be successful in removing dangerous vehicles from the road and detecting offenders.

“On Tuesday, August 24, we deployed community police and road policing officers who operated from Motherwell and Wishaw at various locations along with road policing motorcycles.

“This month’s operation resulted in nine vehicles being issued prohibition notices, a male was arrested on suspicion of drug driving, and a number of other motorists were reported to the Procurator Fiscal for alleged motoring offences.

“We are conducting these roadside checks to ensure motorists are using the road networks legally and it also gives us an opportunity to identify potential unscrupulous traders who may be targeting our older communities.

“So far the operations have allowed us to prohibit 25 dangerous vehicles from being on the road, many other motorists have been warned regarding vehicle standards and vehicles have been seized due to being allegedly driven with no insurance.

“We will continue to work alongside our partners to make the roads and communities a safer place to be.”

The police welcome information from the public regarding anyone using a vehicle under the influence of drink or drugs and are keen to receive information on doorstep criminals.

You can call 101 to report direct to the Police or can report anything anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
