Lanarkshire Police ask people 'to do the right thing' and follow Covid rules

Police have today issued a reminder to residents in Lanarkshire “to do the right thing” and follow the lockdown rules.

The message comes from Inspector Graeme McLaughlin of Bellshill Police following reports of members of the public breaking the restrictions.

Inspector McLaughlin explained: “Officers in Lanarkshire Division continue to explain the regulations and encourage people to do the right thing.

“They are responding to reports of members of the public breaking the restrictions and business premises particularly gyms and hairdressers, who are not exempt from the restrictions, remaining open or being operated from home addresses.

“Police Scotland take these matters seriously and will continue to do so. As a result, a number of persons have been fined or reported to COPFS in respect of the failure to adhere to restrictions.

“The Chief Constable has made it clear that our approach throughout the pandemic has not changed. Police Scotland officers will continue to support people to follow the regulations and encourage them to take personal responsibility.

“People should not leave their homes unless for essential purposes and the best way to stay safe is to stay at home.

“Officers will continue to explain the regulations and to encourage people to do the right thing. Where officers encounter wilful breaches they will act decisively to enforce the law. Thank you.”
