Lanarkshire police arrest eight men in connection with crimes across Scotland

Police in Lanarkshire have arrested eight men in connection with various crimes, to the value of over £169,000, across the country.

Whilst dealing with three incidents relating to alleged thefts of quad bikes recently, Lanarkshire's Pro Active Crime Team (PACT), working closing with policing divisions across the UK, identified individuals who were suspected of committing bogus worker offences, theft and frauds totalling £169,420.

The crimes took place across Lanarkshire, Tayside, Lothians, Scottish Borders and the Highland and Islands Police Divisions.

As it was believed the suspects were in the Cumbria area, an operation was put in place with Cumbria Police to arrest those involved.

In total eight men have been arrested and reported to the Procurator Fiscal for alleged offences including theft, fraud and theft by housebreaking.

Detective Sergeant Gary Crossan, from Lanarkshire PACT, said: "This is an outstanding piece of cross-border partnership working.

"Thanks to the thorough enquiry carried out by officers in both Scotland and England, we were able to arrest eight individuals.

"This display of professional and efficient work is an example of exemplary policing in the UK.

"Bogus crime and Fraud costs victims thousands of pounds each year and tackling this type of crime remains a high priority to Police Scotland."
