Lanarkshire photographer's interest sparked by bird's-eye view of nature racing drones

An eagle-eyed Wishaw man took up photography after catching a birds-eye view of nature from above.

Andrew Sommerville’s interest in capturing images of wildlife for posterity was sparked while he was racing drones.

The former Coltness High pupil has always had an eye for nature and likes nothing better than waiting patiently to capture the “perfect shot”.

He told Lanarkshire Live : “Photography is my happy place and enables me to get out and about.

"I started off flying and racing drones as a hobby 10 years ago and enjoyed taking aerial photos. That got me into photographing nature.”

He then bought his first digital SLR camera and was hooked. Much of the 47-year-old dad’s photography work involves reflection shots and landscapes.

“I try to get the reflection shots totally natural but sometimes you need luck”.

Andrew’s photos can be viewed via his Instagram account and he has a website where you can purchase prints.

Or if you're looking for a gift for the New Year he is producing calendars for 2022.
