Lanarkshire pervert found with more vile material as he waited trial over child abuse images

An East Kilbride man charged with possessing child abuse images was caught with similar material while on bail awaiting trial.

Craig Johnston had earlier protested his innocence, claiming "someone's been sending me stuff".

Johnston, 49, of Laurel Drive, has now been put on the sex offenders' register.

He appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday and admitted possessing and sharing indecent images of children.

Johnston also admitted having photos and videos of adult females engaged in sexual activity with animals.

Police went to his home early on April 9 last year after receiving information that vile images were being downloaded.

Jennifer McCabe, prosecuting, said that as officers began a search Johnston told them: "I'll just stop you right there.

"Someone's been sending me stuff and I kept rejecting and rejecting it."

Hundreds of photos and videos depicting the sexual abuse of children - many in the worst rated category - were found on a device.

There was also evidence that he had shared images.

Johnston made an initial court appearance in July last year. He was given bail but in December he was found to be in possession of more indecent images of children.

Sheriff Alasdair MacFadyen deferred sentence until next month for background reports and a risk assessment.

Johnston was allowed to remain on bail.
