Lanarkshire optician swims with sharks and runs 10km to raise money for charities

A daredevil Lanarkshire optician braved swimming with sharks and laced up his trainers to pound the pavements as he set his sights on raising a four-figure sum for two charities.

Intrepid Ewan Grieve, store director at Specsavers in Airdrie and Coatbridge, completed the pair of impressive activities over two weeks.

He first ran the Edinburgh 10km to collect more than £700 for Cancer Research UK and then, along with colleague Phil McVey, plunged watery depths during a sensational shark dive.

The latter event saw Ewan raise just over £700 for Bliss, a charity that strives to give every premature baby the best chance of survival.

The money collected for Bliss will contribute towards equipment that will help to save the sight of premature children.

Ewan told Lanarkshire Live : ‘I am delighted to have raised a great amount for two fantastic charities who help those in need - either when facing cancer or babies who are born prematurely.

‘I’d like to thank everyone who donated and supported me through my run and shark dive.

"Their generosity helped me to collect more than £1400 for the charities, which is tremendous."
