Lanarkshire nightclubs make opinions clear on vaccine passports

A number of Lanarkshire nightclubs have had their say online about the introduction of controversial vaccine passports.

The so-called passports will be used from 5 am tomorrow across venues in Scotland. These include nightclubs, adult entertainment venues, unseated indoor events with more than 500 people, unseated outdoor events with more than 4000 people, and any event with more than 10,000 people in attendance.

This means that starting tomorrow, venues will need to see proof of two vaccines from punters.

However, many venues have hit out at the plan, claiming they do not think it will be effective.

Eden Nightclub in Coatbridge slammed the proposals, labelling them "vague and uncertain."

A statement on social media read: "Eden Group will be continuing to operate as normal with our strict Covid-19 risk assessment which covers from cleaning measures, ventilation and track and trace.

"The Scottish Governments approach to the passport guidance is currently vague and uncertain, therefore our checks will be visual only.

"We recommend downloading the passport vaccine app that will be available on Thursday for both apple and android, or receiving a paper copy / PDF version online."

This is also the same for ROC in Hamilton, who have also made their position clear on vaccine passports.

The nightclub stated on its social media: "ROC will be operating as normal with our track & trace facility and enhanced ventilation measures.

"The guidance from the Scottish Government regarding the vaccine passports is vague and does not provide clarity of the expectations from us, or our customers.

"We recommend that you get a copy of your vaccine passport as we expect the scheme to be introduced more thoroughly in the future.

"In the meantime, let the party commence."

This news comes after a judge today refused a legal challenge from nightclubs seeking to delay the scheme.

Representatives from the industry lodged a legal challenge, saying the system was "discriminatory" and "disproportionate".

However, this was rejected by Lord Burns who argues it addressed "legitimate issues" of the pandemic in a "balanced way".

The scheme is set to start tomorrow, however, rules will not fully be in place until October 18 to allow venues to get up to speed with the new procedures.

Those who are fully vaccinated and looking to get a copy of proof should visit www.vacs.nhs.scot.
