Lanarkshire musician stabbed and battered with baseball bat after Facebook noise row

A musician was brutally attacked after he complained about noise at his block of flats.

Scott Moran was in bed at his home in Kilsyth when he was awoken by banging upstairs.

Glasgow High Court heard that neighbour Jordan Gray could also be heard shouting from there.

Mr Moran contacted the 25 year-old on social media accusing him of being "out of order".

The thug and friend Alasdair Gray, 26, then pounced on the victim as he later went to a bin area outside.

Mr Moran was stabbed and also smacked with a baseball bat.

A judge heard how the victim is unlikely to regain full use of his left arm as a result which will affect him playing the guitar.

The Grays - who are not related - are now behind bars after they pled guilty to the attack.

Jordan Gray was sentenced to two years and two months for assaulting Mr Moran to his severe injury, permanent disfigurement and impairment.

Alasdair Gray was locked up for four years and 10 months after he admitted attacking the victim to the danger of his life.

He will also be supervised for a further two years on his release.

The court heard how Mr Moran had initially contacted Jordan Gray's sister about the noise.

Prosecutor Angela Gray said: "He then sent a message to Gray on Facebook messenger telling him that he was out of order for waking everyone in the block up."

Later that morning, raging Jordan Gray texted back threatening: "Who the f*** are you talking to? I am coming down to do you in."

Mr Moran was then out emptying his bin when the thug stormed towards him with a baseball bat.

The victim was not initially aware Alasdair Gray was there too. He went on to stab Mr Moran.

Mr Moran then spotted blood before Jordan Gray whacked him on the arm with the bat.

Jordan Gray's mum Donna Miller and another relative were first on the scene after the attackers fled. The blood-soaked musician begged for help.

But, prosecutor Miss Gray said: "He asked them to phone an ambulance, but they refused.

"Donna Miller's concern was to retrieve the mobile phone dropped by her son."

Other neighbours instead came to his aid and he was rushed to hospital.

He suffered a collapsed lung as well as a badly fractured arm, which needed plates fitted.

Miss Gray said the assault has had a "profound effect" on the victim.

Miss Gray: "He has moved away from the area as he reported not feeling safe staying there.

"He is a musician and plays the guitar. The injuries to the arm have affected his ability to play.

"He found the process of completing a victim impact statement upsetting."

Rhonda Anderson, defending Jordan Gray, said he had apologised to Mr Moran via text after the attack.

Alasdair Gray's lawyer Geoffrey Forbes told the court the knife thug needlessly got involved in a "war of words about being woken up".

Sentencing, Lord Matthews said: "You, Jordan Gray, had taken offence because Mr Moran had complained about the noise.

"You deliberately went looking for him with the bat.

"When a struggled ensued, you called out in a cowardly fashion for help from (Alasdair Gray), who had nothing to do with what was going on."
