Lanarkshire musician looks forward to release of debut album and launch gig

A Lanarkshire musician is gearing up to the launch of his debut album next month.

Local singer and songwriter Brian McLachlan will release his record titled 'Turning Wheels' on Friday, November 25.

To celebrate the launch, the 43-year-old originally from Cambuslang and now living in Rutherglen, will perform a special gig planned for the night before at Audio music venue in Glasgow.

And he will tease a bunch of new listeners leading up to the occasion with the release of three singles set to be featured in the album.

An experienced player in the Glasgow music scene, Brian says it has been a great feeling going solo as he looks forward to some exciting times ahead in his new venture.

That begins with his first single being released on Friday, October 7, titled 'This Tree'.

Guitar-based rock and roll with a touch of country, Brian's music has already impressed a select few who will be there to support the Lanarkshire man on the night of his album release.

But it's the level of high-profile people Brian has worked with recently that's been most impressive, and promises some quality tunes - as he managed to get guitarist Marc Ford from American rock band the Black Crowes on board to play on some of his tracks.

Speaking on the release of his debut album, Brian told Lanarkshire Live: "I'm looking forward to it. It's been a long time coming, especially after Covid so it's great to finally get it out there.

"I'm going to release three singles on the lead up to the album coming out. I hadn't actually been planning on making an album, but I had wrote a song, then another one then before I knew it there was an album's worth there so I decided to do something with this.

"I was quite lucky to manage to get Marc Ford to record on one of the tracks which was great and I'm really pleased with the result.

"They're well crafted songs with good harmonies."

"I started playing in bands when I was 16", Brian continued.

"I always wrote songs for bands but would always just play guitar and do backing vocals but this time around I decided I was going to go for it myself.

"It feels good, strange from going from the side of the stage to the centre, but when you're happy with the results and the songs you've written it's good."

After the album, Brian looks to organise more gigs and let more people hear his music.

He wrote the album before the pandemic but wanted to take his time in getting things organised to ensure he could give himself a good run at his new venture.

Over the years Brian has played in bands in iconic venues such as King Tuts and the O2 Academy. He looks ahead to representing his local community as a solo artist.

He added: "I'm excited about it all and curious to see what people think of it because I've kept it under wraps. But I'm pretty optimistic about it getting a good response."

Brian's upcoming singles and album will be available on all the usual streaming platforms including Spotify and Apple Music.
