Motorists are being warned about upcoming overnight closures on the M8.

Road users are advised that the M8 eastbound and westbound carriageways between Junction 7 Eurocentral and Junction 6 Newhouse will be closed on various nights for approximately five weeks, from Monday, September 5, for essential bridge maintenance works.

Only one carriageway of the M8, eastbound or westbound, will be closed at a time for these works.

The closures have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to traffic and are required to ensure road user and road worker safety.

As a result, the following slip road will also be closed:

A spokesperson for Transport Scotland said: "The closures are essential to ensure road user and road worker safety whilst essential bridge maintenance works are undertaken. Works have been scheduled overnight to minimise disruption to road users. The road will reopen at 6am each morning.

"Signed diversion routes will be in place during the closures.

"The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership (SRP) on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route.

"The works have been planned in consultation with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, BEAR Scotland South East Unit and the emergency services.

"Please note, all works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable."
