Lanarkshire man living in Australia celebrates debut album

A Wishaw singer now living in Australia has celebrated releasing his first album.

Millar Jukes moved to Australia over 10 years ago and has found a new love for his music.

He released his debut album last month, which has already made an impact, racking up thousands of streams on Spotify.

The genre-bending album consists of 11 tracks, with lyrics focusing on themes of lost love and homesickness.

The tracks feel like they should leave a gloomy stain on the day, but you will find yourself grooving along and sucked into the bluesy neo-soul world Millar, along with his band, has created.

Musical talent runs in the family with Millar, as brothers Stevie and Alan play in the pop band Saint PHNX, who have supported the likes of Imagine Dragons and racked up 15 million streams on Spotify.

Millar told Lanarkshire Live : "It’s been about 18 months of work and releasing it through the hardest year of my life makes me proud.

"It’s my first album and I also dedicated its release to my mum and dad, so it’s pretty special to me.

"I lost my dad in January and not being allowed to go home this year has been really tough so getting to share this album makes things a little better. He encouraged me to keep making music, so I’m really proud of the songs I’ve been able to make.

"I always wanted to release an album after I did an EP back in 2015. I wanted to change the style though. I wanted to go more indie soul.

"I was listening to a lot of Jacob Banks, Monophonics, and Samm Henshaw when I started coming with new songs and then mixing that with my main influences like Paolo Nutini, the Growlers, Arctic Monkeys, and Nathanial Rateliff.

"I’m really proud with how it’s turned out."

In the album's first week, it racked up a huge 160,000 streams on Spotify.

Millar recently celebrated with a headline show in Melbourne, something he had been planning for a while but had to keep postponing due to ongoing restrictions in the city.

You can listen to the self-titled album on Spotify and Apple Music and can get updates about Millar Jukes via his website.
