A Lanarkshire man has been jailed for almost a decade after being caught with more than £4 million worth of cocaine.
Gary Morris, 41, has been imprisoned for nine years and four months after he pleaded guilty for being concerned in the supply of controlled drugs at Dundee High Court.
He admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine between September 25, 2018 and March 18, 2020. The offence was aggravated by links to serious organised crime.
The drug was supplied at numerous locations in East Kilbride, Glasgow, Wishaw, Bellshill, Motherwell, Newtongrange and Dalkeith, as well as the Toby Carvery in Strathclyde Park and Newbattle Bowling Club.
Morris was arrested after a series of warrants over six addresses in Lanarkshire and Ayrshire on Saturday, July 10, last year. A quantity of Class A drugs with an estimated maximum value of over £5 million was recovered, in addition around £243,000 cash was seized.
The arrest and seizures followed a two year proactive investigation by Police Scotland’s Specialist Crime Division, looking into individuals involved in serious and organised crime and who identified Morris, of Bell Grove, Carluke, as a suspect.
DS Craig Willison, from the Specialist Crime Division, said: “Gary Morris will now rightfully have to deal with the consequences of his actions, as he prayed on the most vulnerable people within our community by coordinating the supply of drugs.
“Our officers work diligently to create a hostile environment for organised crime groups intent on causing harm and I hope this outcome shows that this kind of activity in Scotland will not be tolerated and will be acted upon.
“We encourage anyone who has concerns about drug supply or linked criminality to contact us on 101 Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
