Lanarkshire lights up to remember Amber Gibson

Hundreds of people across Lanarkshire lit a candle in memory of tragic Amber Gibson last night.

As news broke that a 19-year-old man had been arrested in connection with her death, Lanarkshire Live asked residents across the county to stop and pay tribute to the Hamilton teenager.

The 16-year-old, also known as Amber Niven, was last seen on Cadzow Street in her hometown at 9.50pm on Friday evening.

Her body was discovered in the nearby Cadzow Glen just after 10am on Sunday.

Her death sent shockwaves across the community, and has left her friends and family devastated.

Families and individuals, as well as local organisations such as the Machan Trust in Larkhall, who posted a flickering candle to their social media channels.

The inclusion group wrote: "To live in hearts we leave behind is not to die.

"Leaving a light on for Amber Gibson Join with us to pay tribute to Amber. "

Meanwhile Morrisons Hamilton store and hundreds of readers lit up at 10 to 10 on Wednesday night, marking the time Amber was last seen.

A spokesman for Lanarkshire Live said: "Amber's death has rocked not only the Hamilton community, but the wider Lanarkshire and national community.

"Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this difficult time.

"Their pain and anguish is only just beginning, but we wanted to let them know that there is support, love and togetherness for them from their community.

"Thank you to everyone who shone a light, lit a candle and took a moment to remember and think about Amber on Wednesday night."
