Lanarkshire ladies heart-warming story of care home friendship

Two Lanarkshire ladies celebrated their firm friendship within their care home during National Friendship Day last Friday.

Rena Brown and Isa Robertson, aged 95 and 94 respectively, arrived at Lornebank Care Centre in Hamilton within just 10 days of each other, and immediately became inseparable.

The pair are often found enjoying the sunshine with their sunhats and glasses on outside in the garden grounds, laughing non-stop since forming their special bond.

They also love taking part in Lornebank's arts and crafts sessions, where they make cards and picture frames and they are the first to turn up to the socially-distanced dance and singing classes.

Isa, who was born in Blantyre but spent many years living in Largs with her husband Jimmy who sadly passed away many years ago, spent her years working with children with disabilities, a job she loved very much.

Her hobbies include gardening, arts and crafts and music. She is a very sociable lady, who has a kind nature and a great sense of humour.

Rena is from East Kilbride and married her husband when she was 19 and worked as a machinist for many years.

A quiet lady, she has gained so much confidence and become far more sociable since meeting Isa.

Joseph Janikowski, Home Manager at Lornebank Care Centre, said: "The bond between Rena and Isa has been heart-warming to watch develop. The friendship they have is so very special and it brings so much joy to our Home.

"Having each other has made the transition to living here so much easier for them both. They are true friends."

National Friendship Day allowed Rena and Isa to celebrate each other and their friendship whilst also highlighting that you can meet new people and form fulfilling relationships at any age.
