Lanarkshire kids charity smashes £100k barrier after first Grand Ball in three years

A Wishaw kids charity has smashed its fundraising record after its first Grand Ball in three years.

The Les Hoey MBE DreamMaker Foundation’s biggest night of the year was held in the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow - the first since the pandemic.

The event was sold out and raised an incredible £103,000 which will help Les and the team reach more children with life-limiting illnesses and help them fulfil their dreams.

To put the astonishing figure in context, £68,000 was raised at the 2019 ball while £53,000 was put into the coffers back in 2018.

Speaking to Lanarkshire Live this week, a delighted Les admitted he couldn’t have been more delighted at the way the event went.

“I’m very humbled,” said Les. “How are we going to be able to top that next year?

“Maybe it’s because of the three year gap but it was absolutely incredible.

“The auction was superb and I would like to thank our auctioneer Tam Cowan who managed to get an extra few quid for us.”

Prizes on the night various prizes from Rangers and Celtic, a meet and greet with lineal world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury and a signed top from Arsenal and Scotland star Kieran Tierney.

Les added: “I’m absolutely delighted. This will go such a long way to helping the kids and that’s the most important thing.

“People and businesses are going through a tough times so to be backed in the way we have been is fantastic.

“I’d just like to thank everyone for their help.”
