Lanarkshire Karate Academy in Airdrie crown 2021 stars at Christmas party

Airdrie karate kids enjoyed a cracking Christmas party and annual awards night recently to end 2021 on a high.

The town’s Lanarkshire Karate Academy celebrated their success stories of the past 12 months at the Tudor Hotel, complete with a piper, The Grinch and Santa, who handed out selection boxes to all the youngsters.

A raffle also helped raise funds to support the club.

And the winners on the night were as follows:

Most promising beginner – Male: Brody Greenshields; Female: Kendal Reilly

Most promising junior grade – Male: Max Stewart; Female: Jodi Warwick

Most promising Kyu grade – Male: Keir McDonald; Female: Beth Harris

Most improved junior grade – Male: Jack Todd; Female: Amaira Awan

Most improved Kyu grade – Male: Max Alexander; Female: Weronika Sajewska

Best newcomer – Male: Lewis Logue; Female: Kodie Stewart

Best attendance beginner – Mason Miller

Best attendance junior grade – Antony Walker

Best attendance Kyu Grade – Male: Sebastian Magilton; Female: Emmie McEwan

Most improved Kumite – Male: Jack Hunter; Female: Mila McGowan

Most improved Kata – Male: Harrison Carty; Female: Heather Mackay

Kata student of the year – Euan Sangster

Kumite student of the year – Tyler Gibson

Coaches choice award – Male: Jayden Warwick; Female: Leah Colquhoun

Competitor of the year – Emmie McEwan

Overall student of the year – Sebastian Magilton

2021 International medalists – Luke Ryder, Daniel McPake, Emmie McEwan, Sebastian Magilton, Austin Docherty, Heather Mackay and Jayden Warwick.

2021 Dan grade passes – Alyesha Mattewal and Alix Smith.

Proud Sensei Chantelle Allan said: “It was a great evening and an absolutely unbelievable turn out.

“Thank you to our bagpiper, face painter, photo booth, DJ, Santa and The Grinch. All the little extras made it a fun night. And thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets and handed in raffle prizes, all money raised from the raffle will go to the club funds.

“The support we have had not only on the night but for LKA week in week out, especially after this year and last, is absolutely amazing.

“I cannot wait to see what 2022 holds.”
