Lanarkshire hospitals have more Covid patients than at height of pandemic's first wave

NHS Lanarkshire hospitals are now treating more coronavirus patients than during the first peak of the pandemic.

In a video posted to the NHS Lanarkshire’s social media channels last night it stated that they are currently treating more than 200 patients with confirmed Covid-19.

In the Facebook post, the health board said: “We are currently treating more patients for Covid-19 in our hospitals than we were at the height of the first wave of the pandemic.

“With your help, we can reduce the risk of Covid-19 in our hospitals.”

The video also explains that the emergency departments are “exceptionally busy”.

It outlines NHS Lanarkshire want to provide the best care they can and with the public’s help they can help risk the reduce of Covid-19 in hospitals.

The video states: “Help us to make sure our hospitals comply with physical distancing.

“Please attend appointments and departments alone.

“Emergency departments should only be used for serious conditions.

“Our community health services, including GP practices and pharmacies are still available.”

The First Minister at her daily briefing today explained that throughout Scotland 928 people are being treated in hospitals with confirmed Covid-19.

Seventy-four people were in intensive care yesterday with recently confirmed Covid-19.

Bars and restaurants in Lanarkshire and across Scotland’s central belt are also to remain closed for another week after short-term Covid-19 restrictions were extended.

Ms Sturgeon said the move was “first and foremost a public health decision”, having earlier set out rising numbers of cases, people being treated in hospitals, and deaths.

These measures were originally meant to expire on October 26, but Ms Sturgeon said they would now continue until a new “strategic framework” comes into force.
