Lanarkshire hospital ward remains closed following COVID-19 outbreak

A ward within Hairmyres Hospital remains closed following a COVID-19 outbreak at the weekend.

Hospital bosses closed ward 15 on Friday as positive coronavirus cases were identified.

And they confirmed with Lanarkshire Live on Monday that the ward remains closed to new patients and strict virus control measures are in place.

Margaret Meek, director of hospital services, told us: “The ward is currently closed to new admissions and transfers.

"Strict control measures are in place to reduce the risk of infection and the situation continues to be monitored very closely.

“The safety of our patients and staff is of paramount importance and we would like to reassure everyone that we are taking all necessary action to ensure safe and effective patient care at this time.

“I would strongly encourage visitors to get a COVID-19 test before coming to hospital to help keep them and their loved ones safe.”

Over the coming weeks NHS Lanarkshire is increasing the number of vaccination drop-in clinics and the number of appointments available for rebooking.

The drop-in clinics are for anyone who lives in Lanarkshire, who is 18 or over and who has not had a first dose, and for those who have waited eight weeks or more since their first dose and are due their second jag.

Dr Mark Russell, vaccination lead for NHS Lanarkshire told us: “These drop-in clinics will help us to vaccinate our communities as quickly as possible and allow us to get back to the things we’ve missed.

“To make the clinics more convenient, we have also added rebooking appointments on the same days as the drop-in clinics.

"This means people can reschedule their booked appointment if it suits them better. People can also cancel their booked appointment and attend a drop-in clinic.
