Lanarkshire recorded its 40,000th Covid case over the Easter weekend.
At her daily press briefing in Edinburgh today, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon confirmed there had been a further 259 new cases across Scotland including 32 in Lanarkshire yesterday.
In total, 40,087 cases of Covid-19 have now been registered in the county since the first positive tests were confirmed in March 2020.
However, new case numbers are at their lowest level for six months after 474 were recorded last week - down by a third on the previous week.
Throughout March, 2901 cases and 39 deaths from coronavirus were recorded - the lowest since September 2020.
Overall, Covid-19 cases in Lanarkshire are now down by 79 per cent since the new year peak in the week beginning January 4, when 2353 were confirmed.
Deaths from coronavirus are also continuing to fall with just two recorded in Lanarkshire since March 27.
In total, 1307 people in Lanarkshire have died after testing positive.
Lanarkshire has been the worst affected region in Scotland by coronavirus with 6056.4 cases and 197.5 deaths for every 100,000 residents.
Across the region, 334,956 people - 61.6 per cent of the population - have received their first dose of a coronavirus vaccination and 44,275 of them - 8.1 per cent of the population - have received both doses.
