Lanarkshire groups benefit from community grants


Over £2000 in community grants was awarded on Wednesday to groups throughout East Kilbride.

Community grants can be provided by the council for a variety of activities for groups in the area, including administration and publicity costs, funding for equipment and start-up costs.

The aims of the grants are to fund projects and activities that provide community benefits and to involve and bring people together to enjoy activities.

A total of seven groups in East Kilbride benefited from community grants, receiving £2200 between them.

Of the groups who received funding, the charity cycle event ‘Round Strathaven 50’ secured £300 for equipment and materials.

Other groups who benefited include the ‘Midweek Walking Group’ who received £250 and the Duncanrig Rambling Club who were funded £300.

East Mains Baptist Church was given £450 for equipment and materials and East Kilbride Bowling Club received £300 for administration and publicity costs.

The Strathaven John Hastie Museum Trust was given £360 for administration and publicity costs.

Funding of £240 was given to Allers Allotment Association for equipment and materials.

This year, a total of £6045 has been allocated to different groups by the East Kilbride Area Committee, a remaining balance of £35,745 is left over for this financial year, which ends on March 31 2022.
