Lanarkshire granny condemns sickening video of attack on 12-year-old girl shared on social media

A grandmother has hit out at bullies who lured a 12-year-old girl into a sickening attack on Lanarkshire school grounds.

She says the little girl was met by a group when she arrived at Coltness High in Wishaw to meet another pupil after a falling out.

They tossed objects at the youngster, who was also dragged to the ground by the hair and punched repeatedly, the Wishaw Press reports.

The frightening incident was filmed and circulated on social media and shows the victim speaking to the other girl, who is goaded by others to attack.

And as she attempts to back away from the group, a gate is shut and members of the group stand in front of it. At one point she is hit with a plastic bottle and a boy can be seen trying to tackle her to the ground as she is chased.

Threats including “f****** stomp her” and “just hit her” can clearly be heard .

When she is eventually dragged to the ground, the girl fights back and when she appears to get the upper hand the crowd utter more threats. And her family later claimed the youngster was forced to apologise for fighting back.

The girl's mum was alerted to the videos online by another parent and the authorities informed.

The granny said: “You can see from the footage she was forced to fight and didn’t want to. We have seven videos and in every one she is walking backwards.

“They lured her there and she had to defend herself from getting her head kicked in. It’s really bad what they’ve done.”

The girl has since returned to school and Coltness High head teacher, John McGilp, pointed out: “Anyone witnessing this footage will be sickened. Bullying has no place within our school and we work hard to create a culture of tolerance and respect for others.

“Although this incident took place well after the school day had been concluded, we have spoken to the pupils involved in the strongest possible terms and made it clear that this behaviour is absolutely unacceptable. We also phoned parents so that they were aware of this matter.”

Police say they’re investigating an alleged assault at the school pitch on September 2, and are exploring a number of lines of enquiry in relation to the incident with the school.
