Lanarkshire gas explosion sees two people hospitalised in horror blast

Two people have been hospitalised following a gas explosion in Lanarkshire.

Police and fire crews raced to Cedars Grove in Bargeddie this morning around 6.25am after reports of the explosion at a property.

An ambulance was also called and a 39-year-old woman and 43-year-old man were rushed to University Hospital Monklands.

Police say the man has since been discharged however the woman has been transferred to Glasgow Royal Infirmary after suffering serious injuries.

Pictures from the scene show the charred shell of the building hit by the blast, with pieces of its exterior ripped away.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Emergency services were called to Cedars Grove, Bargeddie, around 6.25am on Sunday, 22 November, following a report of a gas explosion within a property.

“A 39-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man were taken to University Hospital Monklands.

"The man received treatment and has been discharged.

"The woman has been transferred to Glasgow Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

“Neighbouring properties have been evacuated as a precaution. Officers remain at the scene."

The Daily Record has also contacted Scottish Fire and Rescue Services for comment.
