A Lanarkshire gardening group have called for public support to help them secure much-needed funds.
Grow 73, based in Rutherglen, are one of three local groups that benefit from shoppers buying Co-op products at the store on Rutherglen Main Street.
Locals who register as members with the Co-op chose their favourite charity from a shortlist of three, and then 2p from every pound spent on Co-op branded products goes toward the chosen good cause.
The local options are for Grow 73, Burnhill Action Group and Whitlawburn Resource Centre.
However some local Co-op members have not selected their chosen cause yet, meaning there is nearly £2000 still waiting to be allocated.
Eugenie Aroutcheff of Grow 73 told Lanarkshire Live : "As you can imagine, the last 18 months have been really challenging for small, charitable groups like ours.
"The pandemic has drastically affected our fundraising efforts, so we’re grateful to have this partnership with the local Co-op.
"There are just 10 weeks to go before the funding round closes, and we’ve just been notified that there’s still £1.7m of unallocated money because some Co-op members haven’t selected their cause yet.
"We’re urging local members to choose us as their cause so we can deliver our project and help more people in Rutherglen and Cambuslang.
"We’re raising funds to develop our community garden project in Overtoun Park.
"We have recently been granted an asset transfer for three disused bowling greens at the centre of our public park, which we want to convert into a garden for our community to use.
"One of our aims is to address our community's health and wellbeing. Green spaces have never been more needed than during the COVID-19 outbreak.
"We would like to develop a piece of land where people can come together to grow food, care for our pollinators through planting and socialise in a safe environment. The money would go towards getting a new shipping container for storage."
"We really hope that people will visit the Co-op website or download the Co-op app and select us as their Local Community Fund cause so we can continue making a difference."
