Lanarkshire Funeralcare centre invites people to plant seeds of remembrance this Mother’s Day

A new initiative has been launched in Lanarkshire in memory of mums and maternal figures who are no longer with us this Mother's Day.

Colleagues at the Co-op Funeralcare centre in Bellshill are inviting members of the community to plant seeds in memory of their loved ones.

Those interested in honouring and paying homage to Mother’s Day can exercise their gardening skills by collecting seeded cards from the care centre located on 32 Hamilton Road, until 4.30pm today (Friday).

In addition to the seeded cards, memorial trees will be located in several Co-op Funeralcare branches across the region, inviting the local community to pop in and write personalised notes honouring their much-loved mothers and maternal figures that they have lost.

Nic MacLennan, Divisional Managing Director at Co-op Funeralcare, said: “We know that Mother’s Day can be a difficult time for so many of us who have sadly lost a mother or maternal figure; be that an aunt, older sister or best friend. We hope that by handing out seeded cards to members of our community who can celebrate those we’ve loved but lost.

"As always, we urge the local community who are struggling with the loss of a loved one to pop into our care centre for a cup of tea and a chat. Our branch is a safe and welcoming space to talk openly about grief, and we are here every step of the way for those who may be experiencing bereavement alone.

"Nobody should feel isolated in their mourning, which is why we continue to work with our local community to implement activities that help take away some of the sadness, like gardening.”
