A Lanarkshire fun run event has raised more than £2000 to help struggling farmers in Africa.
The fun run and walk around Overtoun Park in Rutherglen saw 140 locals make their way around the inside and outside of the park to support Christian Aid - despite some bad weather.
Members of all the churches in Rutherglen worked together to organise the run, which consisted of a 1K inside the park and then a 5K outside the greenspace.
In a statement, the organisers told Lanarkshire Live : "The Fun Run/Walk consisted of two events: a 1K and a 5K, and was run by a team from all the Rutherglen churches.
"One-hundred-and-frty brave participants of all ages turned out on the day, in spite of a poor weather forecast, helping us to raise over £2000 towards Christian Aid’s work with farmers in Zimbabwe.
"We are very grateful for the generous support provided for our event by Rutherglen Rotary, Tunnocks and Tesco Burnside."
Christian Aid has worked in Zimbabwe for many years, aiming to help marginalised communities in the country.
Since the COVID-19 pandemic a rise in the cost of grain and a loss of income has left many small-holder farmers particularly vulnerable, while lockdown measures have disrupted farming and produce markets.
This comes on top of the effects of a changing climate which have led to serious challenges in growing food, with longer droughts and serious flooding.
Christian Aid's work, which the fun run earnings will go towards, has helped many farmers in the area, providing training and resources to help them have a sustainable income and long-term support.
