Lanarkshire family's Christmas joy as newborn son helps end turbulent year on a high

A Lanarkshire family have revealed their gratitude this Christmas after a rollercoaster year ended with the joy of a healthy baby boy joining their family.

Little Myles Gillon was born three weeks early after mum Lisa was induced having contracted coronavirus - which also left her husband Paul having to self-isolate.

That came after 12 months in which the couple had to re-arrange their wedding plans several times due to the impact of COVID-19, resulting in Christmas Eve nuptials last year.

Thankfully Myles arrived safe and sound, and is now doing fine with mum, dad and big brother Sol McKechnie in Rutherglen.

Lisa told Lanarkshire Live : "We are just feeling so grateful for everything. There have been lows in the past year but there's been some fantastic highs as well, and we are so glad that Myles is here.

"I was 35 weeks pregnant when I tested positive for COVID.

"That's when the nurses wanted to induce me early, to make sure Myles was safe and sound, as they were worried he had gestational diabetes.

"I got out of self-isolation, but then Paul tested positive for coronavirus too, so they had to delay the induction for a few days until he could be there.

"At the same time we had to send Sol, who's 10, to stay with his gran while we both had COVID. There were a lot of tears around then and I was just so worried about everything.

"When I was isolating I was getting stressed about it all, but he arrived on November 24, which was the 11 month anniversary of our wedding, and he is doing fine."

Lisa and Paul's wedding plans also added to the ups and downs of the past year. Originally the couple planned to tie the knot last August, but due to COVID the date of their big day was switched - five times.

Lisa explained: "We were supposed to get married on August 1 last year, then the pandemic came about and we changed it to June 12 this year.

"But as time went on we thought 'let's go for it', and planned to have a small ceremony at the end of last year, then a full celebration in June.

"We went for December 5, but then everything locked down again, so it was supposed to December 27 after that at the Tall Ship in Glasgow.

"Then we were in town when we heard everything was shutting down again from Boxing Day, so we pulled off a Christmas miracle and managed to get it switched for Christmas Eve.

"It wasn't what we planned but I wouldn't have changed it."

The couple's June celebration then had to be changed after Lisa learned she was expecting.

But she says that doesn't matter given everything they've gone through.

She added: "I'm just so glad to be able to celebrate everything. Your family are more precious than anything else and Myles is the final piece to our puzzle.

"We feel so grateful for what’s around our Christmas tree this year."
