Lanarkshire dance school celebrates world championship success

Dancers from the Hamilton-based Karen Bordon Dance Academy (KBDA) have been celebrating their success at the World Lyrical Dance Federation (WLDF) World Championships.

Held in Dublin during the last weekend in July, this was the 31 young dancers first ever World Championships.

And the girls, who range in ages from four to adult amassed an outstanding 89 trophies, bringing home 18 World Championship Titles and making them one of the most successful Dance Academy’s of the entire event.

As well as such amazing success the dancers also recently celebrated the 40th anniversary of the KBDA with a spectacular showcase in Hamilton Townhouse and took ownership of a brand new studio in Bertram Street, Burnbank.

Dance teacher Karen told Lanarkshire Live : "The Academy wish to say a huge thank you to all of our sponsors and everyone who helped us raise funds enabling our dancers to compete at such a prestigious event.

"A massive well done to everyone on such a remarkable acheivement, we are immensely proud of you all.

"A huge well done also to our three senior dancers from the Academy who have been awarded places on the BA Honours degree course at Millenium Performing Arts college in London this year. What a phenomenally successful year."

The results were as follows:- Under 6 lyrical support solo - Lolah Maguire; Under 8 level 2 lyrical solo - Anna Barrie; Under 16 lyrical support solo - Caoimhe Deane; Under 9 jazz solo - Lucy McCormick; Under 8 intermediate acro solo - Anna Barrie; Under 10 novice acro solo - Lucy McCormick; Under 14 advanced acro solo - Hailey Burns; Pro intermediate acro solo - Bethany Leslie; Under 10 level 2 lyrical duo - Anna Barrie & Lucy McCormick; Pro lyrical duo - Bethany Leslie & Morgan Leslie; Under 10 Lyrical trio/quad - Anna Barrie, Amelie Bonnar, Olivia McCann & Lucy McCormick; Under 12 lyrical trio/quad - Sarah Barclay, Amy Burns, Josie Dickson & Caitlyn Justice; Under 18 lyrical trio/quad - Aimee Curivan, Caoimhe Deane, Ava Gilchrist & Olivia Leslie; Under 12 level 2 lyrical squad - Together As One; Over 16 jazz squad - Come Alive; Pro/AM lyrical large squad - The Impossible Dream; Pro/AM jazz squad - Vogue; Parents imrpov - Paul Maguire;

The following dancers also won World Championship Soloist titles: Lolah Maguire (Under 6 Supporting solo Lyrical); Anna Barrie (Under 8 Level 2 Lyrical); Lucy McCormick (Under 9 Jazz); Hailey Burns (Advanced Acro Under 12); Caoimhe Deane (Under 16 Supporting solo lyrical); Bethany Leslie (Intermediate Pro Acro).

And the Lyrical Quad World Champions were awarded too: The Voice Within - Anna Barrie, Amelie Bonnar, Olivia McCann, Lucy McCormick (Under 10); Time - Sarah Barclay, Amy Burns, Josie Dickson, Caitlyn Justice (Under 12) and Purple Rain - Aimee Curivan, Caiomhe Deane, Ava Gilchrist, Olivia Leslie (Under 18).
