Lanarkshire dad doubles fundraising target in impressive charity hike up Ben Nevis

A Lanarkshire dad has doubled his fundraising target for a local charity after completing his sponsored hike up Ben Nevis.

Last month we told you how Kenny Gilmour was gearing up for the challenge, determined to provide as much support as possible to The Haven, a cause which helps people suffering with life-limiting conditions.

The 38-year-old from Lesmahagow was joined by his two sons on Tuesday, July 26, as they set out to reach the summit Scotland’s highest mountain.

Ahead of the hike, Kenny set up a fundraising page with a target of £1000. However after garnering a huge support from friends, family and locals, he was able to smash this with a total of £2089 now received in donations.

Following months of endurance training, the trio made it to the top within an impressive three hours and 10 minutes -an incredible effort and achievement for them all.

Although the weather was thankfully in their favour, they all agreed it was a tough, yet very enjoyable challenge and experience.

Kenny told Lanarkshire Live : “I’m buzzing!

"I’m so proud of my two sons. When we first had this idea, we thought that £1000 was being slightly ambitious, but we have reached over £2000.

"Thank you to everyone who donated. You’re all so kind. These funds will go a long way to assist The Haven supporting those in need. Thank you everyone.

"Your kindness is so much appreciated and will not be forgotten”.

The Haven provides practical and emotional support to help alleviate physical and emotional distress through wellbeing sessions, activity groups and video support calls to adults and young people.

The charity provides information and support at all stages of illness (including bereavement support) and by supporting clients and their families, to live life positively with hope - facing the future together.

The Haven would like to say a very special thank you to Kenny and the boys for their incredible effort, enthusiasm and participation in taking part in such a vigorous, and exciting fundraising challenge.

The charity has also thanked locals for their generosity and to everyone who donated to help support a local cause.

The fundraising page will remain open for the next few weeks for anyone wishing to make any final donations:

You can still donate here.
