Seven Lanarkshire Covid-19 testing sites were forced to close yesterday evening after they ran out of Covid-19 PCR testing kits.
NHS Lanarkshire posted on their social media channels last night that that sites at Eastfield, John Wright Centre (East Kilbride), Edward Lawson Centre (Wishaw), Chapelhall, Chryston, Coatbridge and Motherwell would all close for the day around two hours early.
A statement on their Facebook page last night read: "The following Covid testing sites have closed for today: Eastfield, John Wright Centre (East Kilbride), Edward Lawson Centre (Wishaw), Chapelhall, Chryston, Coatbridge, Motherwell.
"At this time we would advise that you make an appointment to get a test.

Reports of people being turned away from testing sites across the county then followed.
One man posted on Twitter: "Why did North Lanarkshire run out of tests yesterday? Daughter missing school today as had to rearrange. Would have had a result by now. Unacceptable. Run out of tests? Not good enough."
Dr Alison Smith-Palmer, NHS Lanarkshire consultant in public heath, said: “We are aware of some supply issues with PCR testing kits. This is having an impact on the operational hours of some of the testing sites and actions are being taken to restock supplies.
"However, it is still important that people get tested. We would encourage people to book a test in advance as they can be directed to a site which has testing kits available. Test can be booked on the NHS Inform website or by calling 0800 028 2816.”
Coronavirus case numbers almost doubled last week as Lanarkshire recorded its highest weekly tally of the pandemic so far.
The Scottish Government confirmed there had been another 518 cases recorded in the county on Sunday, August 22 – the third highest daily figure on record.
As a result, there were 3197 positive tests in the region last week– up 95 per cent on the previous week and 478 higher than the previous record high set in October 2020.
